The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved multiple actions at its Oct. 6 meeting, the county said.
The board approved about $2.1 million in District Specific Priorities Program funding for senior housing, holiday assistance and veterans services; that includes $2 million from First District Supervisor Col. (Ret.) for the Adelanto Senior Housing Project, which will provide 92 homes for seniors in the High Desert.
The board approved $120,000 from Second District Supervisor for community outreach and holiday food assistance, and $10,000 from Armendarez and Fourth District Supervisor for Upland Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10489 to support equipment, outreach and programs at its new location.
The San Bernardino County Community Development and Housing Department received approval to accept about $5.2 million in additional Permanent Local Housing Allocation funding from the California Department of Housing and Community Development, increasing the county’s total award to about $20 million through June 2030; the funding will support affordable rental housing for households generally earning up to 80 percent of area median income and may be used for gap financing, operating reserves, acquisition and rehabilitation, and other eligible project needs.
The board approved a $960,000 contract with Trona Joint Unified School District to provide Head Start services in Trona through June 2030; the county said this expands early childhood education and family supports in a remote area with limited qualified providers and facilities.
San Bernardino County Preschool Services will partner with Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County to provide free food to families enrolled in Early Head Start, Head Start Preschool and State Preschool through October 2031; Preschool Services directly serves more than 2,000 children countywide.
The county accepted a diaper donation valued at about $7,200 from Baby2Baby for the Public Health Department’s Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Program; the department expects the donation to benefit about 480 families.
The Registrar of Voters was approved to accept about $1.5 million from the California Department of Finance to expedite vote counting and expand voter outreach for the Nov. 3 General Election. The county said the money will pay for additional ballot extraction machines, a 24-hour extraction shift, extra staffing during high-volume periods, expanded automated signature verification and improvements to ballot tracking and processing.
The board also approved $684,000 for a permanent wildland firefighting helitanker station at Glen Helen Regional Park.
San Bernardino County Library received approval for a five-year agreement with Southern California Edison allowing 14 designated library locations to serve as Community Resource Centers during public safety power shutoffs and other qualifying public safety events.
