The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services said it will take the Great California ShakeOut tour to San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles and San Diego from Oct. 12–15; the announcement is Cal OES’s account of the planned public events and simulator demonstrations.

Cal OES said the tour uses a trailer-equipped earthquake simulator that reproduces shaking up to magnitude 7.0; the trailer measures 14 feet by 9 feet by 36 feet.

The events are open to the public from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day; the tour culminates with the Great ShakeOut statewide drill on Oct. 15 at 10:15 a.m., and Cal OES directed Californians to register at ShakeOut.org for resources and to sign up. Participants will be able to practice life‑saving actions such as Drop, Cover and Hold On and locking the wheels of a wheelchair.

Cal OES Director said the office is committed to reaching communities with tools and information to help people protect their families before a disaster.

Daily public schedule and locations, as provided by Cal OES: Oct. 12; San Francisco, San Francisco State University, Esplanade near the SFSU bookstore, 1600 Holloway Ave; Oct. 13; Sacramento, Sacramento State, near the Hornet Bookstore, 6000 Jed Smith Dr; Oct. 14; Los Angeles, UCLA, Wilson Plaza south of Kaufman Hall, 405 Hilgard Ave; Oct. 15; San Diego, Balboa Park, north of the Plaza de Panama fountain, 1549 El Prado. Media arrival times listed are 5:00 a.m.; public hours are 6:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. each day.

Cal OES listed visual opportunities including the simulator in Cal OES livery, Californians riding the simulator and earthquake experts interacting with students and residents; the agency also posted a media and partner toolkit and videos and photos from prior ShakeOut events for use by news organizations. For more information, Cal OES published a tour page at news.caloes.ca.gov/the-great-california-shakeout-tour-2026/ and pointed readers to ShakeOut.org to register their participation.
