The California Department of Justice is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Madera Police Department that resulted in the death of one person, Attorney General announced Monday, Sept. 28. The shooting happened around 12:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, in Madera, the department said.

The department’s California Police Shooting Investigation Team opened the investigation under Assembly Bill 1506; when it is complete, the case will be turned over to the department’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for independent review, the department said.

The department said the information it released is based on preliminary details of an ongoing investigation and may continue to evolve.
