The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said an indictment was unsealed Sept. 30 charging a 36‑year‑old Florida woman with attempting to kill musician Rihanna after shots were fired into the singer’s Beverly Crest home on March 8 at about 1:20 p.m.
The indictment, returned June 18, names Ivanna Lisette Ortiz and charges one count of attempted murder, 10 felony counts of assault with an assault weapon and three felony counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper.
Ortiz pleaded not guilty and bail was set at $2.65 million; she is scheduled to return Oct. 29 for a pretrial hearing in Department 112 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
The release says Rihanna, her boyfriend, their children and several other people were on the property and in an adjacent home when Ortiz is accused of driving to the front of the house in the 9500 block of Heather Road and firing a semiautomatic rifle multiple times; no one was struck and Ortiz was later arrested in Sherman Oaks.
“Every person deserves to feel safe in and around their home,” Los Angeles County District Attorney said. “Shooting at an occupied home is a serious, violent crime that is both reckless and dangerous. It is pure luck and not a matter of restraint that no one was killed or injured.”
The case is being prosecuted by Alexander Bott of the Major Crimes Division and remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery‑Homicide Division; if convicted as charged Ortiz faces up to life in state prison.
The release says the charges filed in this case are allegations and Ortiz is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
