The County of Riverside said its Vector Control Program will conduct an ultra-low volume ground application in three areas of Nuevo on Oct. 8, 2026, after a positive West Nile virus mosquito sample was detected.
The county scheduled the treatment for 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.; the product to be applied is Aqua Reslin (EPA Reg. No. 432‑796), and the county said trained and certified technicians will follow label instructions.
The county identified three treatment zones and their sizes: Mystic Field Area, 49.5 acres bounded by Reservoir Avenue, Orange Street, Lakeview Avenue and Magnolia Avenue; East Nuevo Area, 77 acres bounded by Reservoir Avenue, 5th Street, Lakeview Avenue E and 6th Street; and West Nuevo Area, 172 acres bounded by 9th Street, Yucca Avenue, 10th Street and Reservoir Avenue.
The county said the ultra-low volume treatment uses 0.5 ounces per acre and that Aqua Reslin is an EPA‑approved product; the county added that the material poses a "very low to no risk to people and animals," and advised residents and pets to remain indoors and keep windows closed for 15 minutes after the application.
Fifth District Supervisor said, "Keeping our communities safe and healthy is something we all share. The detection of West Nile virus in a local mosquito pool reminds us of the importance of working together to reduce mosquito activity and protect our families, neighbors, and communities. This targeted treatment is one of the steps being taken to help reduce the risk of West Nile virus transmission. We encourage everyone to do their part by preventing mosquito bites and removing standing water around their homes."
Department of Environmental Health Director Freddie Agyin said, "To keep your family and pets safe, I urge residents to take key precautions. Protect yourself by applying EPA-registered repellent, wearing loose long-sleeved clothing, and avoiding outdoor activity at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active. During spraying, keep pets indoors, bring pet dishes and toys inside, close doors and windows, and turn off window-mounted air conditioners."
The county said notification signs will be posted along treatment routes beginning Oct. 6, 2026, and that Vector Control staff are increasing surveillance, searching for breeding sites, and performing larval control where appropriate.
Residents may call the Riverside County Vector Control office at (951) 766‑9454 to report mosquito problems, ask questions, or request mosquito‑eating fish; more information is available at https://rivcoeh.org/vector-control.
