San Bernardino County posts fall events, preparedness resources

The County of San Bernardino published a roundup of community events and programs running Sept. 26 through Oct. 10; the county newsroom post is the source for dates, locations and participation rules.

Best-evidenced items include a Family Preparedness Day on Sept. 26 at the Highland Branch Library; the county says the event runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will offer hands-on preparedness stations, CPR practice and a sign-up for emergency alerts. The county also says the first 50 people who register will be entered in a drawing for a 72-hour preparedness kit; registrants will be contacted before the event and can pick up kits on Sept. 26. Animal adoption events are scheduled for Sept. 26 in Fontana; the county posts that San Bernardino County Animal Care is partnering with PetSmart Charities from 1 to 3 p.m. at Fontana PetSmart. Mojave Narrows Regional Park will hold a Harvest Festival and Haunted Hayrides on Oct. 10; the county says the festival runs 3 to 9 p.m. and that hayride pre-sales begin Sept. 28 at 8 a.m. The county published specific hayride timing; rides begin at 6:36 p.m., depart every 12 minutes and end with a final departure at 9:24 p.m. Hayride tickets are listed at $5 per person and park entry at $15 per vehicle except for campers. Practical consequence; attendees who want a hayride should buy pre-sale tickets the morning they go on sale and arrive early to allow for entry and check-in.

The Apple Valley Airshow and NAPA Car Show is scheduled Oct. 10 at Apple Valley Airport from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the county post lists the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, the Round Canopy Parachute USA Team jumping from the C-53 Skytrooper 'D-Day Doll' and a ground display by the U.S. Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard among the headliners. The county also names Kirby Chambliss as an aerobatic performer. Practical consequence; the event includes aviation displays, a car show and STEM activities for families.
