San Bernardino County said it joined the 2026 Great California ShakeOut at 10:15 a.m., with more than 30 county departments, cities, schools and partner agencies practicing "drop, cover and hold on."
County teams also conducted drills and evacuations designed to test emergency procedures and strengthen readiness across the region; the county said exercises are important because several active faults, including the San Andreas Fault, run through the area.
Residents can keep the momentum going by reviewing their household emergency plan, checking emergency supplies, securing heavy furniture and other objects that could fall, and identifying safe places to drop, cover and hold on; the county listed those steps as practical preparedness actions.
The county will continue the conversation at the San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands during the annual Shake or Treat event on Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; the museum address is 2024 Orange Tree Lane, Redlands.
The county said the Ready SB County app; launched during last year’s ShakeOut; is celebrating its first year with more than 5,000 users; the app offers emergency alerts, interactive hazard maps, evacuation zones, safety check-ins and local resources. Residents can also sign up for TENS at Prepare.SBCounty.gov for emergency notifications and preparedness guidance.
