The County of San Diego said registered voters will begin receiving ballots the week of Oct. 5; some voters may receive theirs over the weekend.

The County said every active registered voter will get a ballot by mail and can return it three ways: by mail with no postage required; at any of the Registrar of Voters’ more than 150 official ballot drop boxes starting Oct. 4; or at any vote center beginning Oct. 24.

Mailed ballots must be postmarked on or before Nov. 3 and must be received by the Registrar no later than seven days after Nov. 3 to be counted; ballots returned at official drop boxes or vote centers must be dropped by 8 p.m. on Nov. 3.

The Registrar of Voters said the official ballot drop boxes are red, white and blue, made of heavy-gauge stainless steel and feature double-locking doors, anti-pry jambs and a fire suppression system; only the Registrar’s ballot retrieval team collects ballots from the boxes.

In-person voting at the Registrar’s office at 5600 Overland Ave. in Kearney Mesa begins Monday, Oct. 5; the office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The County said select vote centers open Oct. 24 daily 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; all vote centers open Oct. 31 daily 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and on Nov. 3 all vote centers, official ballot drop boxes and the Registrar’s office are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The County said the official ballot packet includes voting instructions, a two-card ballot and an “I Voted” sticker. Voters should seal their marked ballot in the postage-paid return envelope, date and sign the envelope; the signature is required to ensure the ballot counts.

Voters can track when a ballot is mailed, received and counted through the California Secretary of State’s ballot tracking service. The County said additional information, including the voter information pamphlet, candidate statements and drop-box and vote-center locations, is available at sdvote.com or by calling 858-565-5800 or toll-free 800-696-0136.
