The California Attorney General’s Office issued a press release saying Attorney General filed his 100th lawsuit against the Trump Administration on Oct. 15, 2026. The office said the new complaint seeks to block Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s policy and practice of carrying out civil immigration enforcement in and around state courthouses.

The office said the 100 lawsuits were filed since President returned to office on Jan. 20, 2025, a span the release described as about 21 months. The release said Bonta led or co-led 67 of those cases and filed more than 130 amicus briefs challenging the administration; the office said the work produced 57 orders granting early relief, 26 final orders, and nine instances where the administration backed down before a hearing on the merits.

The release summarized a range of claims against the administration, including attempts to end birthright citizenship, with California’s first suit filed less than 24 hours after Jan. 20, 2025 and taken to the U.S. Supreme Court; efforts to cut federal funding for education, research, housing, healthcare and infrastructure; moves to seize state and commercial data for immigration enforcement; and what the office called unlawful deployments of the National Guard.

Attorney General Bonta was quoted in the release saying, "For the 100th time since President Trump returned to office, we’re going to court." The release framed the filings as legal responses to what the office described as repeated unlawful actions by the federal administration.

The Journal notes that if a court blocks the ICE policy challenged in the new complaint, ICE would be prevented from carrying out civil immigration arrests at or immediately around state courthouses in California; that would directly affect how and where federal immigration enforcement operates and could reduce reluctance by people to attend court or access courthouse services. The Attorney General’s Office provided a federal accountability dashboard at oag.ca.gov/federal-accountability-dashboard for details on the litigation and its outcomes.
