On Oct. 29, 2026, Attorney General announced felony charges against a former Lassen Superior Court executive officer for allegedly misappropriating more than $14,000 in public funds.
The attorney general’s office said investigators identified approximately $14,285 in allegedly unauthorized expenditures made between 2022 and 2025, involving personal purchases on a court-issued credit card and falsified reimbursement requests.
Court employees flagged questionable credit- and fuel-card transactions in Oct. 2024 and reported them to the presiding judge, who notified the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office; the attorney general’s office said the California Department of Justice assumed responsibility for the investigation in July 2025 at the request of the Lassen County district attorney’s office.
The attorney general’s office said investigators reviewed court financial records, reimbursement requests and internal purchasing procedures and interviewed witnesses to reach their findings.
“Public officials have a responsibility to safeguard taxpayer dollars. When those who are trusted with public funds misuse them for personal gain, they will be held accountable,” Attorney General Bonta said. “My office will continue to investigate and prosecute public corruption to protect the integrity of our institutions and the Californians they serve.”
Charges are allegations; the attorney general’s office said all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
