Firefighters have reached 17% containment on the Bryson Fire in Malibu; the county said the blaze has burned 146 acres with no reported structure loss and only minor injuries to fire personnel.

Los Angeles County provided the incident details and response numbers in a county press release; county officials said they pre-deployed resources and assigned more than 414 emergency personnel to the fire.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for parts of Los Angeles County through Saturday; Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone said, “Red Flag Warnings and a heat advisory are bringing elevated to critical fire weather conditions that will continue today into Saturday.”

The county said firefighters are protecting structures and improving control lines to limit the fire’s progression. Third District Supervisor said, “I especially want to thank our brave firefighters who fought through the night, who held the line to make sure that despite these challenging winds, no lives or structures were put in harm’s way.”

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has added patrols in the Malibu area to support firefighters and deter burglaries in evacuated neighborhoods. Sheriff said, “If you are asked by anyone at the County, whether it’s the Office of Emergency Management through an alert, or a deputy sheriff or a firefighter or a CHP officer, if someone comes to your home and says there’s an evacuation order, that means you need to leave now because there is an immediate threat to your life.”

The county warned that power outages are likely as utilities act to reduce fire risk; Kevin McGowan, director of the county Office of Emergency Management, said residents should prepare for Public Safety Power Shutoffs and keep phones and backup batteries charged.

The county said the Bryson Fire started Thursday, Oct. 15, at about 4:41 p.m. Evacuation orders are in effect for zones KAN-U017 and SYC-U016-A; the county said an order means there is an immediate threat to life and residents should leave now. Evacuation warnings are in effect for multiple additional zones; the county advised people who need extra time, have mobility needs or have large animals to leave now.

Key road closures the county listed include Encinal Canyon Road from the City of Malibu to Mulholland Highway and Lechusa Road between Decker Road and Encinal Canyon Road. Caltrans, in coordination with county agencies, restricted Topanga Canyon Boulevard to residents only between Mulholland Highway and Pacific Coast Highway through Friday night; motorists should use I-10, U.S. 101 or I-405 as alternates and check Caltrans QuickMap for conditions, the county said. Do not drive around barricades and avoid unnecessary travel in canyon and mountain areas. Road conditions can change as fire and weather develop.
