The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power announced a groundbreaking ceremony for the LADWP La Kretz Center in Hollywood on Oct. 17, 2026; the agency said the Morton La Kretz family provided the land for the project.
The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at 1033 Cole Avenue, just south of Santa Monica Boulevard. LADWP described the project as a new customer service center and community space.
Speakers listed by LADWP include Linda La Kretz Duttenhaver, philanthropist; Nurit Katz, vice president of the Board of Water and Power Commissioners; and Rachel Armendariz Ortiz, director of customer operations.
The ceremony will take place on an active construction site on a dirt surface that may be muddy; attendees must wear hard hats, safety vests and sturdy, closed-toe shoes with good traction, and LADWP said it will provide hard hats and vests for those who need them.
Street parking is limited; yellow loading zones are nearby and more free parking is available alongside the Hollywood Recreation Center at 1122 Cole Ave. Visuals LADWP offered include chrome shovels, a backhoe and remarks from the La Kretz family and LADWP leaders.
