Los Angeles County proclaimed October as "Domestic Violence Awareness Month" and said it has strengthened its response by establishing the Office of Violence Prevention and the Domestic Violence Council; by investing in programs through the Office of Women’s Health; by collaborating with the Domestic Violence Homeless Services Coalition; and by launching CareConnect to improve access to shelter.

The county highlighted abuse in later life as willful abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, or sexual violence against adults 50+ often by someone they know or trust; people needing services or support can call the LA County Domestic Violence Hotline at (800) 978-3600.
