The San Diego County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved a plan to create a regional e‑Bike Injury Warning System, the county said.

Rady Children’s Hospital reported pediatric e‑bike trauma cases increased from three in 2021 to 262 in 2025; the county said local officials currently wait as long as 14 months for statewide injury data to return to the region.

The county said the system will collect real‑time data from hospitals, trauma centers, emergency departments, Emergency Medical Services providers, law enforcement agencies and other regional partners; it will collect, aggregate and publicly report regional injury trends on an ongoing basis.

The county said the system will track rider age, crash time and location, helmet use, device type, injury severity and patient outcomes.

The county said it will use existing staff and resources to run the system, resulting in no additional General Fund cost.

The county said the regional approach mirrors similar efforts in places like Marin County, where detailed monitoring revealed high‑risk youth injury patterns and helped guide safety measures; the county said more timely local data should let agencies identify dangerous locations and risk factors and respond faster.
