The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for inland, mountain and foothill areas in San Diego County and a heat advisory for coastal areas starting Thursday, the County said.

The county said the high wind warning begins Thursday morning and ends Saturday evening; forecasters said gusty conditions could continue in inland areas into Saturday night.

The county said high winds may cause power outages, blowing dust, downed trees and hazardous driving for taller vehicles; it added that hot, dry and windy conditions often overlap with Red Flag warnings, increasing the risk of fast‑moving wildfires.

Prepare for high winds by securing outdoor items such as patio furniture, umbrellas and trash bins; avoid driving high‑profile vehicles during peak wind periods, watch for downed power lines and report them, and keep an emergency go‑kit ready with charged phones, flashlights and medical-device batteries.

For the heat advisory, the county said people should stay in air‑conditioned places during peak heat, drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing and never leave children, older adults or pets in vehicles; the county also advised against relying on fans alone when temperatures exceed 90 degrees.

The county said its Cool Zones include 33 branch libraries and community centers where people can get out of the heat; an interactive map and a list of locations are available on the county website.

Near the Tijuana River Valley, the county said it monitors hydrogen sulfide odors that can rise during heat events and advised residents to limit outdoor activity, close windows and run air conditioning on recirculate; the county pointed to its Tijuana River Valley Environmental Dashboard for more information.

The county encouraged residents to prepare for possible power outages by charging devices, cooling homes early, keeping water on hand and signing up for emergency alerts at AlertSanDiego.org.
