The County of San Diego warned residents that rain is expected to return this week and provided steps to prepare.

The National Weather Service forecasts cooler temperatures, showers and a chance of thunderstorms beginning Wednesday evening and continuing through Thursday afternoon, the county said.

The county directed residents to register for emergency alerts at AlertSanDiego.org or by downloading the Alert San Diego app; registered users receive emergency phone, email, text messages and push notifications.

Officials urged households to make a personalized emergency plan and to build a kit with water, nonperishable food, medications, documents, flashlights, batteries and pet supplies.

The county pointed readers to the El Niño 2026 Information Hub for weather alerts and forecasts, sand and sandbag locations, instructions for reporting storm-related issues before severe weather arrives and resources from local municipalities and partners.

The county noted that sandbags can help protect homes from water intrusion, flooding and soil erosion and offered guidance on how to properly fill and stack them.
