The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said in a statement Oct. 13, 2026, that a review of Canter’s Deli accounts found electricity use stayed essentially flat and was not the primary driver of the higher bills.
Over the past three months, electric charges increased about 6.6% while water charges rose 21.6% and sewer charges rose 45.0%, the utility said; higher peak demand charges caused a modest portion of the electric increase.
LADWP said the large increases in water and sewer charges may indicate a water leak or another source of elevated water consumption; that explanation remains a possibility rather than a confirmed cause.
The utility said it has reached out to the customer and offered an in-person field investigation to assess water and electric service, identify potential leaks or unusual usage patterns, and provide recommendations on available water conservation and energy-efficiency incentives and programs.
LADWP said those resources can help reduce consumption, lower operating costs and improve a business’s resilience against future increases in utility use and related charges. For customer service, the utility listed www.ladwp.com/CustomerService.
